National Day of Sri Lanka - 04.02.2013

65th Independence Day of Sri Lanka was celebrated on 04th February 2013 with the participation of large gathering of Sri Lankan expatriate community at the Embassy premises.

H.E. the Ambassador hoisted the national flag while playing “Magul Bera” and traditional conch. All the participants sang the National anthem of Sri Lanka and H.E. the Ambassador lit the traditional oil lamp with other Sri Lankan community leaders. A two minute silence was observed to commemorate the war heroes followed by religious observances.

The Independence Day messages of the President, Prime Minister and Minister of External Affairs were read in all three languages. Ambassador addressing the gathering noted that Sri Lanka was able to eradicate terrorism in 2009 and that was the day that all Sri Lankans were able to enjoy real independence. Sri Lanka Oman relations completed 25 years by now and we commemorate 25th anniversary with a Sri Lankan Trade Exhibition and Food Festival scheduled to be held in Al Falaj Hotel, Muscat from 12-14th February. Ambassador said that these relations will be further strengthened in the years ahead.

It was followed by a traditional Sri Lankan lunch.
