Independence Day Celebrations 2012

64th Independence Day of Sri Lanka was celebrated on 04th February 2012 with the participation of Sri Lankan expatriate community at the Embassy premises..

H.E. the Ambassador hoisted the national flag while playing “Magul Bera”. All the participants sang the National anthem of Sri Lanka and H.E. the Ambassador lit the traditional oil lamp with the Sri Lankan community leaders.  A two minute silence was observed to commemorate the war heroes followed by religious observances. 

The Independence Day messages of the President, Prime Minister and Minister of External Affairs were read in all three languages.

H.E. the Ambassador in his speech said “we have enjoyed close and cordial ties with Oman for many decades.  I am confident our ties will be strengthened in the areas such as manpower, agriculture, cultural, social and community activities in the years to come”.

Refreshments including traditional sweetmeats were served to all participants.
