Inauguration of the Stassen Tea Lounge at Al Falaj


The Stassen Tea Lounge, inside the main reception area of the Al Falaj Hotel, an Aitken Spence property, was inaugurated by HE HK Pathmanaathan, the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Sultanate of Oman, here on Monday in the presence of Omani dignitaries, prominent members of the European and Asian expatriate as well as other invitees.

What made the whole event all the more auspicious was the fact that it came close behind Sri Lanka’s National Day on February 4.

Talking to the Oman Tribune, the Ambassador said: “Al Falaj Hotel’s Stassen Tea Lounge will fulfil the need for a dedicated place where tea lovers in Oman can come and enjoy the cup of their choice at leisure amidst a perfect setting and ambience”.

He said several people had brought to his notice that retail and hypermarket often sold duplicate brands, passing it off as ‘genuine Ceylon’.

“The Stassen Tea Lounge will now ensure that tea lovers get the choicest brands of high-quality Ceylon Tea”.

Elaborating further, the ambassador said “The unique taste and enchanting aromas of Ceylon Tea have made it the most sought-after beverage around the world, second after water. There is something so compelling about it; you want to have another cup, and another.

He added� that sometime later during the year Sri Lanka would be celebrating the 150th anniversary of the tea industry”.

To a question about his personal preference for his morning cup of tea, the Ambassador said: “I like to start my day with a good cup of black Ceylon tea with some milk and sugar”.

Perhaps this sums up aptly the sentiment of every tea lover. Indeed, a cup or two of tea in the morning and one is all perked up, ready to take on the world. And during the day when a person’s spirits begins to sag or wilt, nothing refreshes and puts you back on your feet better than a good cup of tea.

Srinith D’Silva, CEO of Aitken Spence, Middle East, said people would now be able to purchase the tea of their choice from out of 50 of the topmost blends of Ceylon tea.

“This is the first time that the Stassen brand of pure Ceylon teas are being introduced and served for the Omani market through our tea lounge. Visitors are free to take their time sampling as many blends as they want to, before deciding what they want to buy. You can’t do that in a retail store or supermarket”.

Harsha Theverapperuma, general manager of Al Falaj Hotel, said What is more, is that there is the most delectable and mouth-watering range of snacks to go with it”.

The Tea Lounge will also be serving a scintillating assortment of the most exciting concoction of tea beverages.

Rose with French Vanilla Sunshine Iced Tea, Pomegranate Berry Sangra Iced Tea, Mint Juice Iced Tea, Minty Cooler Iced Tea and Calypso Cinnamon Ices will be just some of the delightful iced tea beverage on offer there.

There will also be Tea shakes , including Earl grey Ice Cream Tea Shake, Cinnamon Ice Cream Tea Shake and Earl Grey Banana Tea Shake. There will also be some fantastic mocktails like Cinnamon Orange Spice Chilled, Montana Blast, Chamomile, Sparkling Tea, Apple Cider, Morocan Mint and Lemon T and Ginger Fizz

The tea ice-cream will include Rose French Vanilla� and Blueberry Pomegranate

The Tea Lounge will also have for sale some signature teas like Ceylon Whole Leaf Green tea, Organic Ceylon Green Tea, Single Oolong leaf tea, single Estate Darjeeling, singe estate Assam, Mint Green Tea, stron brew tea, OrangeBlack tea, Chai Spice tea� .

The Tea Lounge will also be serving high tea snacks and tea cakes between 4�� and 6 pm.These will include Cheesy tuna melt-in tortilla, crepes, waffles and Tea desserts.

The evening will include baked baked cheese cakes, rose French vanilla cakes, signature date and ginger cakes, Grandma style chocolate mud cakes and Raspberry rolls.

The general manager concluded by saying that the Tea Lounge is going to be one of the most happening and fun places in Muscat and “ invite all communities to come and have a good time.

An Italian guest at the opening Dr Monica Stefani said:”I think the Stassen Tea Lounge is a brilliant idea and concept . It is the first time that anybody has thought of opening up a place like this. The design and d�cor is very cosy and soothing, it’s just the kind the place you would like to have a leisurely cup of cup tea”.

She added that she had previously spent a week in Sri Lanka and had the opportunity to visit a tea plantation and do some tea-tasting there. It is a good thing that there is a place like Stassen from where we can buy good and proper tea; and the best thing is that prices are so reasonable. I bo0ught my quota of Ginger tea”

Swedish businesswoman and a long-time resident in Oman, said she loved everything the Stassen Tea Lounge� from the idea, to the ambience to the amazing variety of teas, tea-based beverages and the soft accompanying piano music to go with it.

As guests went round taking in the d�cor of the tea lounge, sampling food from an elaborately laid out buffet, or tasting a delightful array of iced teas, shakes, and mocktails, a pianist’s soft and sparkling pieces added to the celebratory mood of the Stassen tea lounge.

Earlier, before the Sri Lankan Ambassador proceeded with the ribbon-cutting ceremony, a welcome address read out in his honour said: “The journey of a thousand sips begins with a cup of tea. After that of course, there are endless possibilities that can open up.� To make every sip a beautiful moment come true, the Al Falaj Hotel is opening the Stassen Tea lounge – the very first of its kind in Oman – where tea lovers� – will be able to sample the choicest selection of Ceylon teas before they order , the cup of their choice; the cup that cheers them the most”.
