68th Independence Day Celebrations of Sri Lanka- 4th February 2016

On the occasion of the 68th Independence Day of Sri Lanka, the Embassy organized a flag hoisting ceremony at the Embassy premises on 4th February 2016, with the participation of the Sri Lankan community in the Sultanate. The function was attended to by around 300 Sri Lankan expatriates living in the Sultanate representing all sections. Religious observances were followed by the reading of Independence Day messages by H.E the President, Hon. Prime Minister and the Hon. Minister of Foreign Affairs. H.E the Ambassador in his speech highlighted the policy priorities of the present Government such as Good Governance, economic development, democracy and reconciliation and invited the Sri Lankan community to contribute to the success of various initiatives taken by the GoSL led by His Excellency President Maithripala Sirisena and Hon Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

In commemoration of the Independence Day, the Embassy issued a supplementary together with “Times of Oman,” one of the leading daily newspapers in Oman. The Supplementary carried articles on Sri Lanka tourism, investment policies and economic growth in addition to the messages of H.E the President, Hon Prime Minister and Hon Minister of Foreign Affairs.
