National Day Diplomatic Reception - 09.02.2014

To mark the 66th Anniversary of the National Day of Sri Lanka a diplomatic reception was held at “Afrah Ballroom” of the Grand Hyatt Hotel, Muscat on 9th February 2014 from 7.30 p.m – 9.30 p.m with the participation of about 400 dignitaries including Ambassadors, Deputy Heads of Missions, senior officials of the Omani Foreign Ministry, members of the Sri Lankan communities, and other communities and Embassy Staff.

The Chief Guest, Secretary General of the Foreign Ministry of Oman was warmly welcomed by Sri Lankan Traditional Dancers with Orchid garland and dance performed by “Budawaththa Dance Troupe”. Ten other representatives including two Ministers, Ministry of Agriculture & Fisheries and Ministry of Social Affairs attended as the Guests of Honor.

The celebration commenced by playing the National Anthem of Oman followed by the National Anthem of Sri Lanka.

H.E. the Ambassador welcomed the gathering and stated that our relations in various fields namely; Trade, Economic, Tourism and Manpower were very strong and it will be further strengthened in other areas such as Agriculture, Social and Community activities, Education, Maritime Defence and Banking sector in the years to come.

H.E extends his sincere appreciation and gratitude to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos and the Government of Sultanate of Oman for their strong support and cooperation extended to the Embassy and the Government of Sri Lanka.

The “Budawaththa Dance Troupe” performed several cultural dances, which was highly appreciated by the dignitaries and other community members.

A dinner was served to the distinguished invitees and Complimentary Tea and the souvenir were distributed among the gathering.
